Music is a huge part of wedding celebrations, and it is really important to have the right music to set the right mood for your perfect day. Creating the setlist with your DJ may not seem like the most critical task for wedding planning, but there are some songs you need to make sure you have chosen in advance.
Romantic slow songs allow you time to hold your new spouse close and have some wonderfully intimate moments as part of the dancing. Obviously, you will have chosen a specific song for your first dance and for any dances with your parents, but you should also have other romantic slow songs sprinkled throughout the set. This also gives you a moment to catch your breath, especially if you have been dancing a lot. It also gives your photographer more time to capture really special moments between you and your spouse and with other people at your reception.
If there isn’t any upbeat dance music that basically demands that people get on the dance floor, it is probably going to stay empty, so this is an important part of your setlist selection. Make sure you work with your DJ to choose songs that fit the type of dancing that you want to happen. Country swing dance and club dancing have very different music styles. But don’t feel like you need to choose all of the songs yourself! This is why you hire a DJ and work with them to create the music setlist. Rather than choosing every song, give your DJ some guidance and let them work their magic.
If you have special songs that mean something to you and your partner or if you have songs that you just absolutely love, these should be included in the setlist. After all, your wedding and wedding reception is about you, your partner, and your love, so the party should fit your personality. If some of your favorite songs don’t work well for dancing, they can be used as background music during other parts of the reception or as part of your entrance or exit. Again, you should work with your DJ to figure out where these songs fit best or see if they can be remixed to fit with the dancing you want.
Working with your DJ to choose the right songs and the right feel for the dance music will allow you to have a smooth experience when it comes to setting the mood and making sure that everyone is having fun. Use this as an opportunity to showcase your personality a little bit.
